Wooden wicks have became the latest trend. Wooden Wicks create a modern appeal, and offer an intriguing visual aesthetic along with the soft crackling sound.

Wooden wicks also create a fast burn pool for excellent hot trow and do not mushroom and have little carbon buildup, debris, or sooting.

At Lushica and Co.,the wooden wicks we use in our candles are Eco-friendly, clean-burning, wooden wicks made from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)  Certified Wood, hand-crafted + made in the USA.

When you purchase a wooden wick candle from Lushica and Co., know that you are consuming your wooden wick candle responsibly.

To ensure you get the most enjoyment out of your candles, it is important to follow standard candle safety and care guidelines. Lushica and Co. is not responsible for misuse. Each candle includes safety label instructions on the bottom level and information how to properly care of your wooden wick candle.

Wooden wicks are quite tricky and need a little care and attention compared to cotton wicks.

Here are some guides how properly maintain your wooden wick candles:

Trimming the wick

All our candles come with pre-trimmed wicks.

We recommend trimming the wick to 1/8'' -1/16'' before re-lighting, because it is important to prevent the flame from getting too big and consume your candle faster, create soot and uneven burning.

Lighting the Wooden Wick

Hold candle at an angle when lightingContact wick with the flame for a least 10 seconds, to give more fuel to the wick. (Bic wand lighters are more ideal than strike matches)

Take Note: Wooden wicks are natural so some parts might be harder to light up.

If your wick goes out too quickly, relight it and watch to see what happens. Is it burning out immediately? Your wick might be a tad too long. Take a wick trimmer or nail clippers and clip just a tiny sliver off. Light again.

During the First Burn

Once lit, make sure you give your candle enough time to have a full circle melt. As rule of thumb, burn your candle for 4 hours the first time you light it. This is called the ''memory'' burn.

After Burn

After the melted wax has reached the edges, for safety precautions, use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame and let it cool for 24 hours.

Before re-lighting your candle, it is very important to break off the black char from your last burn. This will ensure a proper burn and crackle.

We recommended using wick trimmer

or between your fingers

or when it reaches the bottom when it is hard to reach, nail clippers

Take Note:

If not properly trimmed, the wick may not light, or flame may be too high.

When you burning a candle for an extended amount of time, the flame height can getting low. It may be necessary to extinguish the candle and clean off any excess ash or burnt wood along the top of the wick. The flame will the return to its proper optimal high.

Additional Guide

After each burn, the level of wax decreased due to consumption, but the wick height increases after each burn. When the wick's height increases, flame height increases too, and generated more heat, and like that candle being too hot and leads to broken glass.

If the wooden wick was trimmed too short and the candle won't stay lit because it is drowning in a pool of wax, try using a paper towel to soak up the excess wax, until the your wick has room to breathe and stay lit

General Candle Safety

  • Always trimming the wick before each burn.
  • Keep the wood wick at 1/8'' -1/16'' at all times.
  • If the flame is higher than 5/8'', extinguish the candle, trim the wick and relight.
  • If you notice soot, extinguish the candle, trim the wick and relight.
  • Burn within sight on a level, heat resistant surface away from drafts, children, pets and flammable objects.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Never extinguish a candle with water.
  • Do not touch or move hot glass on a burning candle.
  • Never burn a candle more than 4 hours.
  • Keep wax pool free of debris and wood wick trimmings
  • Do not place your candle in a draft filled area such as a hallway, near a window or by a fireplace.
  • Handle glass jar with care, If the jar is broken, chipped or cracked, discontinue use.
  • Discontinue burning candle once 1/2'' of wax remain. Burning beyond this point can present a fire hazard.
  • Due to the unpredictable nature of soy wax, it is normal to see some adhesion changes within the glass over time. This not affect the ability of the wax to burn or mean the candle is defective or expired.
